The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect. The suspect is described as: Male 5’8” in height Short brown hair Wears glasses Last seen wearing a light coloured shirt with a black collar, dark jacket with a hood, dark pants and dark shoes He is believed to be armed and dangerous. On Friday, September 17, 2021, Toronto Police released an alert in relation to this incident as well as a second which occurred a short time later in the area of Bloor Street West and Avenue Road. The suspect is described as: Male, white, approx. 5'10", slim build, approximately 30-35 years of age, ball cap – brown, Hoodie - black, jeans - dark blue (rolled up to calf), shoes - white and teal A photograph of the suspect is attached to this Community Safety Alert. Campus Safety Special Constables will be conducting proactive patrols in the area. If you observe this individual do not approach and contact the Campus Safety urgent line at 416-978-2222. --- A reminder, The University of Toronto campus is situated in an urban environment, and though campus areas are relatively safe, the campus is not immune to crime. Please be aware of your surroundings and take precautions when you must walk alone. First and foremost, we encourage you to download the Campus Safety App and utilize the TravelSafer service when travelling around campus at night. Tips for travelling on foot. Travel with a friend or in a group. Be alert and aware of your surroundings. Use well-lit, well-traveled routes. Avoid dark, deserted areas. Dress in clothes and shoes which will not hamper movement. Don’t show off valuables like iPhones & AirPods. Keep your ears alert. Do not use headphones after dark. While on campus contact 416-978-2222 or use an emergency phone if you need help. If You Sense You Are In Trouble: Move away from the potential threat if possible. Join any group of people nearby; cross the street and increase your pace. If a threatening situation is imminent, and people are close by to help, yell, scream or make a commotion to get their attention. Go to an open business and request help. The University of Toronto Campus Police has evolved and adapted to remain responsive to the ever changing needs of the University community throughout its 116 year history. In 2021, the Service will undergo one of its most significant change with its tri-campus re-branding as the University of Toronto Campus Safety - Special Constable Service. Our Service's re-branding to Campus Safety will better reflect the robust range of public safety services that we provide to the University community. It will also align us with new provincial regulations aimed at bringing standardization to Special Constables across the province. Our Service's re-brand comes with a fresh new visual identity - one that we believe is approachable, accessible and distinguishable.
